An Introduction to Wicking Beds @ Trillion Trees
Jun 2 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
An Introduction to Wicking Beds @ Trillion Trees | Hazelmere | Western Australia | Australia

This series will consist of four workshops that each focus on different aspects of gardening using a wicking bed, including construction (with a live demonstration), soils and nutrient cycles, what to grow, and managing pests and nutrient deficiencies.

Workshop One – In this introductory workshop, the presenter will demonstrate how to build a wicking bed using recycled materials. Participants will then be able to construct a wicking bed at home.

Workshop Two – The second workshop in the series will focus on soils and nutrient cycles. Participants will come away with an understanding of the benefits of growing vegetables in a contained bed, what soils are appropriate to use, and the importance of nutrients.

Workshop Three – The focus of this workshop will be the importance of choosing the best veggies and herbs to maximise your productivity and harvest.

Workshop Four – The final workshop in the series will focus on how to diagnose and treat nutrient deficiencies and manage pests using non-toxic methods, including companion planting and encouraging beneficial insects.

Children’s Forest Planting @ Whiteman Park
Jun 10 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Children's Forest Planting @ Whiteman Park

The Children’s Forest is a community forest to which youngsters of all ages can belong.

It is a place where children can learn about the importance and beauty of Western Australia’s native bushland and where they can come and watch ‘their’ forest grow and flourish as they do.

Entry to the Children’s Forest is free and children, together with their friends and family, are encouraged to explore, enjoy and discover the many wonders of the Forest, including giant marching ants, colourful birds, peeking possums, a life size Wedge-Tailed Eagle’s nest made of steel and the Forest’s ‘guardians’, the Boy of the Bush and his sister Fern.
