Trillion Trees Australia has been working with the City of Swan for many years to produce free plants and trees for local residents to plant in their home gardens. All City of Swan residents were eligible to apply earlier in the year for the 2024 Free Trees and Plants Giveaway, delivered by Trillion Trees Australia.
Each year, the City of Swan gives residents a selection of native, waterwise seedlings from Trillion Trees Australia that can be planted in gardens across the City.
A range of biodiverse native trees and plants were grown for the project by dedicated volunteers in our Community Nursery. Rural residents could set preferences from a range of large trees and smaller shrubs, while those living on urban blocks were offered smaller verge species, with the option to add one larger tree if they had sufficient space for it to grow.
More than 800 rural residents and 3500 urban residents applied for their free plant pack this year. The Free Trees and Plants Giveaway forms part of the City of Swan's plan to conserve the natural environment and increase urban tree canopy. Residents are eligible for either an urban or rural pack of seedlings, depending on their property size.
The program was successfully delivered over a series of events throughout June. A large team of valued volunteers in our Community Nursery worked hard to prepare and distribute the plants to local people. Thank you to everyone who made this program a huge success.
