Earlier this year the WA Government launched Treebate - a residential rebate initiative aimed at encouraging the planting of native trees by West Australians.
An annual allocation of 10,000 rebates is available, each valued at $150 per WA resident (18+), redeemable via the ServiceWA app. At the last media update, less than half of those Treebates had been claimed since the program launched in July.
The program is funded at $6.9 million per year, as part of a broader $16.9 million Urban Canopy Growth package supporting both household and community planting. The goal of the program is to plant 1 million trees by 2035. This program is part of the broader WA Government aim to achieve 40% urban canopy cover across Perth by 2040. Perth currently has the lowest canopy cover of any Australian capital city.
How to Claim a Treebate #
To claim your Treebate, you must retain a printed tax invoice and a photo of the plant label to upload to the ServiceWA app.
Eligible tree species must be natives that reach a canopy height of over 3m at maturity. Each adult in a household can claim one Treebate. Treebate is available once per person - you can claim one Treebate during the four year program.
Treebates cannot be applied to multiple trees - you cannot purchase 25 tubestock at $6 each and claim the $150 rebate.
The ServiceWA app is the fastest way to claim your Treebate. A paper based alternative claim form is also available.
