Activate Saplings Dabakarn Tree Planting Festival

May 20, 2025

The Trillion Trees is delighted to be working in partnership with our good friends at Activate Saplings to deliver the 2025 Dabakarn Tree Planting Festival (21-22 June).

Please join us for the Activate Saplings fourth tree planting festival, created for and by the next generation of environmental stewards.

Held on a private property near Chittering, less than an hour from Perth, this event promises to deliver a weekend full of action, good vibes, and community. Together, we’re aiming to plant 20,000 seedlings to help heal landscapes, connect communities and empower climate action.

The Activate Saplings crew will also bring live music, yummy food, and workshops that spark your creativity, connection to land, and spirit. Think art, landcare, and a little bit of soul stuff too. BOOK HERE

About Dabakarn #

Dabakarn Tree Planting Festival takes place on 200 hectares of land in the Chittering Valley owned by Pete and Jo Randell. Dabakarn means 'take it easy' in Noongar language. Back in 2009, Trillion Trees (then Men of the Trees), worked together with Activate Tree Planting to plant 2000 trees in a fenced area of two hectares with great success. Seed from these plants has been used to propagate more seedlings for subsequent plantings.

By planting on contour swales on the high ground, trees have helped to mitigate the impact of a landslip that was occurring in one area of the block, and also reduce soil salinity.

The site holds 'Land for Wildlife' status and is a haven for a wide variety of species. Jo and Pete report that the range of small birds is extraordinary, including wrens, robins and honeyeaters. Our precious and endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoos are known to feed and roost on the property, and two nesting boxes have been installed for them high in the marri trees. Echidnas, snakes and sand goannas are occasionally sighted on the property too.
