Trillion Trees Australia is delighted to host an entertaining afternoon with ABC Gardening Australia presenter, Sophie Thomson. Find out more about what inspired her love affair with the environment and gardening as she shares her knowledge gained from more than 35 years of gardening experience.
Sophie is in Perth for the Guildford Open Gardens Festival, hosted by Open Gardens WA, which takes place in Stirling Square over the weekend of 9-10 November.
Sophie Thomson’s love affair with the environment and gardening was inherited from her plant loving parents whilst growing up and working at the family nursery in the Adelaide Hills. What started out as a necessity eventually became a key driver in her life as she steadily acquired in-depth knowledge of the nursery’s large collection of rare and distinctive plant varieties.
With over 35 years hands on experience, Sophie now believes that aside from the obvious environmental benefits, gardening improves our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing as well as that of the broader community.
Sophie brings a down to earth approach to her work and is known for her environmental outlook and love of sustainable gardening. She is a great advocate of the importance of gardening in individual and community health and the role it can play in relieving stress in everyday life. She will present a talk entitled "Saving the World with Gardening", which will be followed by light refreshments.
