Corporate Volunteers Assist with Weeding Project

October 25, 2024 in Restoration

On Wednesday 23 October 2024 we welcomed a team of corporate volunteers to our Hazelmere site to assist with weeding. They began the day by weeding under the benches in our community nursery. Its really important that we keep this area weed free to reduce the spread of seeds among our precious young native plants. We are working hard to implement an integrated pest management plan and avoid the use of harmful sprays within the community nursery, so hand pulling weeds is an important step in this move towards becoming spray free.

After morning tea they moved down to the river bank to weed our Bilya restoration site. This area adjacent to the Helena River was planted by community volunteers in 2023, and the native plants are really starting to thrive now. They will be greatly assisted by the removal of invasive weeds around the planting area, allowing the native plants to flourish and out compete their weedy neighbours. All our planting sites are maintained through regular nature care visits for at least three years from the initial planting date to ensure the best possible survival rates.

Volunteering
with us is a great way to build team spirit while working outdoors in nature in a peaceful environment on the edge of the Swan Valley. If you'd like to find out more about our corporate volunteering opportunities please email hidden; JavaScript is required.
