Trillion
Trees is one of eight diverse local organisations to receive an EMRC
Community Grant. A total of $16,844 was awarded to support initiatives
enhancing community well-being and development near Hazelmere Resource
Recovery Park and Red Hill Waste Management Facility.
We were
pleased to see Susannah Brook Catchment Group receive funding for their
native fauna conservation and community education project, and Bibbul
Ngama Aboriginal Association were also successful for their community
cultural awareness project.
Our grant will be used to set up a
new community composting program with educational workshops. The grant
funding will cover the setup of a small vermicomposting (worm) system on
site at Trillion Trees. The key objectives of the project are to better
process the nursery waste and other green waste that we produce on
site, and create a useful soil improver (compost) that we can also
utilise. There may also be scope to trial a liquid soil improver in
restoration projects too.
The first session for the new community
compost project will be held this Friday 7 February at 9am. If you
