Members of the Trillion Trees team were invited by Dr Trish Cook MP (Member for Bullwinkel) to attend a community morning tea in Forrestfield in September.
Representatives from a wide range of charities and not for profits were in attendance at the event, which took place at Woodlupine Community Centre in Forrestfield. The Bullwinkel electorate covers a wide area of the Perth Hills, Foothills and Wheatbelt, including our 2027 planting site at Dale, near Beverley.
The keynote speaker for this special event was The Hon. Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury, who gave a detailed insight into a range of Government initiatives aimed at supporting charities to thrive such as changes to rules governing eligibility for Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Alongside Dr Cook, he welcomed a range of questions from the floor at the end of his presentation. Charity representatives raised wide ranging queries about topics such as working with children checks, ways to recruit more volunteers and changes to private and ancillary funds. There was keen interest in the Kids in Philanthropy program and the upcoming Stronger Communities Grants, which are now open.
