Macadamia Memorial Planting for Thom Scott

August 07, 2026 in General

On Friday 31 July 2026, members of the Trillion Trees community joined the family of our late president, Thom Scott, to plant a grove of Macadamia trees in his memory. Macadamia trees were chosen by his family to reflect Thom's love of our precious black cockatoos. In a few years, these trees should provide a nutritious food source for the Forest Red Tailed and Carnaby's Black Cockatoos, which are under so much pressure from land clearance and urbanisation.

Thom dedicated his life to serving the community and protecting the environment. As our president from 2014-2021, and again in 2023, Thom’s unwavering goal was simple - he just wanted people to plant more trees. He’d do whatever he could to empower and engage the community to do exactly that.

It was his inspired idea to change our name from Men of the Trees to Trillion Trees almost ten years ago.

Thom encapsulated the spirit of Trillion Trees Australia. Inspiring you to try harder, stay longer, plant more. The embodiment of passion for the natural world, Thom truly was a ‘man of the trees.’

This grove of Macadamia trees will form an important part of his legacy and a steady reminder of his presence and passion.
