"The team at Trillion Trees is excited to welcome Doug Laurie to the fold as our new Ecological Restoration Manager. Doug brings fresh philosophies and enthusiasm to his role of restoring our natural landscapes, and will be a great asset to Trillion Trees and our restoration stakeholders," said Trillion Trees CEO Mark Hullett.
Doug brings a range of skills and experience in restoration, and is a graduate of Curtin University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Environmental Biology: Restoration Stream. Doug has a keen interest in native grasses, and hopes to complete his masters investigating their uses blurring the boundaries of restoration and agriculture.
He has worked in the biosecurity industry, monitoring and mapping the spread of dieback across urban and rural landscapes. This role gave him invaluable experience in flora taxonomy, vegetation condition and understanding South West Australian Ecology. More recently, he has worked as an environmental advisor running seed collection teams and monitoring site hydrology and soil management.
In his spare time, he loves spending time outdoors camping, trail running, surfing and gardening. His favourite eucalypt is Eucalyptus macrocarpa: "They have a very wild, prehistoric desert feel to them and such a unique leaf, flower and form that they stand out as much in a garden as they do in native bushland."
He has also worked as a baker and enjoys making sourdough in his spare time: "I love to learn more about the link between quality soils, foods, health and flavour, and the importance of diversity of microorganisms and fermentation in agricultural and our own microbiomes."
Doug leads our ecological restoration program in Perth and the Wheatbelt. We know that everyone in our community will join us in giving Doug a very warm welcome to the Trillion Trees team. email hidden; JavaScript is required
