After the success of our campaign to stop the Hazelmere Data Centre, community groups from across Australia have been reaching out to us to find out more about how we did it. We continue to share resources and copies of submissions to assist other groups.
Kate Herren (Trillion Trees Fundraising and Communications Coordinator) will be speaking again at an interstate event on Monday 6 July, at the invitation of Greenpeace. The "Lane Cove Community Info Night: The Threat of AI Data Centres" is a community event in the heart of Lane Cove, a small North Shore Sydney suburb fighting a growing tide of data centre developments.
Trillion Trees has also joined an informal alliance of community groups from across Australia, coordinated by climate activism organisation, 350, to call for a moratorium on data centre developments. The group is asking for a pause on new approvals until proper guard rails and legislation is in place to protect communities and the environment from the damaging impacts of data centres. Kate was also a guest on the ABC Perth Drive Show on Tuesday 30 June speaking about the impacts of data centres on communities and the environment.
A federal enquiry into data centres and AI is currently underway. Please make a submission if you are concerned about this issue. You can use a copy of your submission to the City of Swan consultation into the Hazelmere Data Centre if you have it.
